    EcoHouse Faculty Director

     

    EcoHouse is a Living/Learning Community housed in Sprague Hall on East Campus.  We are seeking a current tenured, tenure-track or APIR to assume responsibilities as Faculty Director. The Faculty Director will report to the Executive Director of First Year Programs & Learning Communities.  Effective date of the appointment is targeted for August 2014 and will be for a 3-year term.

    EcoHouse was established in August 2009. This learning community exists to foster meaningful student learning, engagement, collaboration and camaraderie around environmental and sustainability issues. Over the past several years, EcoHouse has become the hub of student environmental activity on campus and is home to about 100 students.

    The Faculty Director’s primary responsibility is to provide vision and leadership for the continued development and operation of EcoHouse, supporting the overall mission of the community.

    Responsibilities include:

    • guide EcoHouse staff (which includes professional staff position, Hall Director, Resident Assistants (RAs), and/or student employees);

    • oversee curriculum and be instructor of record for at least 2 1-credit courses held each semester and hold weekly office hours in EcoHouse to be accessible to residents of the community;

    • encourage collaboration among environmental research, teaching, and service activities taking place across UConn’s campuses;

    • develop a speaker series and/or collaborate with other lecture programs on campus;

    • write an EcoHouse-related grant annually, or take lead role in other activities leading to program enhancement;

    • promote awareness of EcoHouse and attend fundraising and/or outreach events as appropriate; and

    • develop program assessment strategy focused on educational outcomes

      Candidates should have a demonstrated strong commitment to undergraduate education and advising; environmental research and teaching interests; and enthusiasm and organizational skills for building a high-quality experiential education program. The Director will work closely with the Office of First Year Programs & Learning Communities (primarily), the Institute for Student Success, Residential Life, and the Office of Environmental Policy.

      Compensation

    • Faculty Director: 1 month salary (this is a 10-month appointment)

    • Release time/other matters negotiated between Vice Provost  and your Dean or Department Head
