  • NBA/NFL Fan Study: Human Subjects Requested

You are invited to participate in a survey on fan support of NFL and NBA teams mired in mediocrity. The aim of this study is to study fan acceptance of, or even appreciation for, team failure, in consideration of potential future benefits.

Your participation in this study will require you to read a brief scenario, followed by completion of a questionnaire. It should take approximately 5-10 minutes of your time. Your participation will be anonymous, and you will not be paid for being in this study. This survey does not involve any risk to you. However, the benefits of your participation may add a new dimension to fan behavior research, given the prevalence of team “tanking” the past few years. If fans are amenable to franchises seeking to curtail current success, it may also impact organizational strategies.

The survey can be completed online at https://uconn.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_elXabAe75VhMQ0R

The principal investigator for this project is Laura Burton, Ph.D. This study has been granted approval by the University of Connecticut Institutional Review Board under the protocol #X14-057.
