  • 3/24 Art Spiegelman at the Jorgensen

Acclaimed cartoonist Art Spiegelman will speak on Monday, March 24th at 7 p.m. His lecture, “What the %@&*! Happened to Comics?” will take place at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts.

Spiegelman’s visit is among several events that have been taking place in recent months as part of the 2013-2014 UConn Reads program. This year’s selection, Persepolis, is a best-selling autobiographical graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi.

In his lecture,  Spiegelman will offer a chronological tour of the evolution of comics.

Spiegelman’s comics are best known for their illustrative style and controversial contents. In 1992, he won the Pulitzer Prize for his graphic novel Maus, which depicts the story of his parents’ experience as Holocaust survivors.
