  • 2/28 Ardis Butterfield: "Chronologies of Medieval Song"

    The Medieval Studies Program will host a guest lecture,  "Poems without Form? Chronologies of Medieval Song," by Professor Ardis Butterfield of Yale University on Friday, February 28, at 4pm in Austin 163.  


    Professor Butterfield specializes in the works of Chaucer, bilingual and multilingual medieval identities, the medieval lyric, and the literature of France and England from the 13th to the 15th centuries.
    Recent books include The Familiar Enemy: Chaucer, Language, and Nation in the Hundred Years War (Oxford University Press, 2009) and Poetry and Music in Medieval France: From Jean Renart to Guillaume de Machaut (Cambridge University Press, 2002). Professor Butterfield also edited the collection of essays Chaucer and the City (Boydell & Brewer, 2006) and has recently helped to found The Medieval Song Network, an internet-based research hub for international scholars and performers of medieval music.
