    Parameter estimation under communication constraints

    ABSTRACT

In this talk, we will consider a parameter estimation problem in which data are obtained from multiple sources subject to bandwidth constraints, as it is often the case in sensor networks. We will propose estimating schemes that require communication of only one-bit messages, but nevertheless are asymptotically efficient if the rate of communication is chosen appropriately. Our asymptotic results will be supported by simulation experiments, whereas we will also present a "low-rate" extension of the classical renewal theorem that is motivated by the analysis of the proposed estimators.
