  • 2/28 Save The Date Feb 28 for The Salon at The Benton

    The February 28th SALON at THE BENTON will celebrate Women's History Month and connect with the 2014 UConn Reads book Persepolis in a discussion entitled "Herstory and Memory." 

    Cathy Schlund-Vials, who holds a joint appointment in English and the Asian American Studies Institute, will moderate what promises to be a lively discussion with panelists Kathleen Holgerson, Director of the Women's Center at UConn, and Afarin Rahmanifar, Persian artist, a UConn MFA alumna, and a professor at Eastern Connecticut State University.

    Plan to come at 5 o'clock for refreshments.
    The program will begin at 5:30 and will run until 7 pm.

    Admission is free.
    Door prizes include gift certificates to the restaurants at the Nathan Hale Inn.

    ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS:

    Cathy Schlund-Vials is the Director of the Asian and Asian American Studies Institute and Associate Professor of English and Asian and Asian American Studies at UConn. Her research interests are in the experiences of dislocation and migration, and the crucial connections between history, memory, citizenship, and human rights. 

    Kathleen Holgerson has worked in the fields of community education and counseling / crisis intervention. Her areas of expertise include violence agasinst women, prevention and intervention, diversity education, and gender equality in higher education.

    Afarin Rahmanifar is a leading Persian artist whose work explores intersecting points of eastern and western culture as it relates to the changing roles imposed upon Iranian women by the revolution. Her work is featured in the Benton's current exhibition Persepolis: Word & Image.
