  • 2/11 UConn Innovation Quest (iQ) Competition Kickoff

Sent on behalf of Dean John Elliott, School of Business and Dean Kazem Kazerounian, School of Engineering:

As we all know, fostering and encouraging innovation in today's young entrepreneurs is imperative in driving economic development.  As the state's flagship university, it is our responsibility to develop programs and opportunities that support and encourage creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship as a way to help all of our students and faculty enhance their capabilities and, in turn, boost Connecticut's economy.

With that in mind, we are pleased to announce UConn's 3rd annual Innovation Quest (iQ) Competition. The kickoff event is scheduled for next Tuesday, February 11th at 7:00PM in Gentry Room 131.

The diverse portfolio of submissions over the past two years underscored the fact that ideas and innovation can come anytime, anywhere, and from anyone.  Last year, more than 100 Undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. students across all campuses and 23 different academic disciplines, ranging from business and engineering students to others in the liberal arts, GeoScience, medicine, pharmacy, media, communications, and the humanities brought creative ideas forward.  Therefore, getting the word out across the entire University is critical in ensuring equal access and opportunity.

The iQ Program was brought to UConn at the encouragement of Keith R. Fox '80 (BUS), a longtime entrepreneur, executive, and philanthropist who offered to sponsor the program here at UConn after seeing its success at Cal Poly.

The iQ kickoff event on February 11th will feature a team of current students, faculty and UConn alumni explaining the competition guidelines and instructions on how to enter and win up to $15,000 in cash prizes. For more information about iQ and to RSVP for the kickoff, students can search "Innovation Quest-UConn" on Facebook or go to www.innovationquest.org/uconn.

Thank you for your support of this University-wide initiative!
