On January 20 (Monday), the University will be observing the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. We are faced with two appropriate needs—to honor the memory and pay tribute to the work of Dr. King and to provide service and support for new and returning students who may need to resolve scheduling and address other academic issues. I am requesting, therefore, that student service and academic departmental offices remain open on January 20. I would further request that, within these parameters, Deans, Directors, and Department Heads establish staffing patterns which accommodate individual wishes to observe the holiday.
