  • AsAAC Typhoon Relief Efforts for the Philippines

To concentrate UConn’s relief efforts for the Philippines after the recent typhoon disaster, the Asian American Cultural Center (AsACC) and Filipino American Students Association (FASA) have researched various aid options and have decided to focus on:

Love for Life Foundation, a 501c3 charitable organization (US tax IDN: 22-3780820) based in Ledyard, CT and chaired by Dr. Jocelyn Datu.

The Love for Life Foundation operates a charitable hospital in Pampanga, Philippines.

Funds raised through them will be used for medical and other supply needs, purchased locally in the Philippines, and hand-delivered to the islands of Bantayan and Biliran ASAP.  The plan is to help with the acute/survival needs of the islands.  While the suffering in Tacloban City is in sharp focus to the world’s eye, many other areas equally damaged have not received the same media attention and relief.  In particular, these 2 islands (Bantayan and Biliran), close to the eye of the storm, continue to be outside the media’s radar.

Cash may be delivered to AsACC.

Checks, made out to the Love for Life Foundation, may also be delivered to AsACC or mailed directly to:

               ATTN: Dr. Jocelyn Datu

               Love for Life Foundation

               PO Box 634

               Ledyard, CT 06339

Additionally, there will be a box in the Asian American Cultural Center to collect items (clothing non-perishable food, blankets) to be sent to the Philippines in collaboration with the Philippine American Association of Connecticut (PAAC).  The items will be sent to Operation Blessing Foundation in the Philippines.  This organization will be sending out teams to affected areas with food, clothing, and other supplies.

Any support is greatly appreciated and desperately needed at this time.
