  • 1/16 Paid on an NSF, NIH, NIFA Grant? RCR Requirement

2020 Responsible Conduct of Research Training Workshops Schedule Announced

The National Science Foundation (NSF) requires in-person responsible conduct of research (RCR) training for all undergraduates, graduates, and post-doctoral fellows who conduct research supported by NSF funds.  Similarly, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) “requires that all trainees, fellows, participants, and scholars receiving support through any NIH training, career development award (individual or institutional), research education grant, and dissertation research grant must receive instruction in responsible conduct of research.  This policy [took] effect with all new and renewal applications submitted on or after January 25, 2010, and for all continuation (Type 5) applications with deadlines on or after January 1, 2011.  This… applies to the following programs:  D43, D71, F05, F30, F31, F32, F33, F34, F37, F38, K01, K02, K05, K07, K08, K12, K18, K22, K23, K24, K25, K26, K30, K99/R00, KL1, KL2, R25, R36, T15, T32, T34, T35, T36, T37, T90/R90, TL1, TU2, and U2R”.  Please see the Policy section of the NIH website for more information: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/not-od-10-019.html

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) also requires education in RCR for program directors, faculty, undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and any staff participating in research projects supported by an NIFA award.  As stated on the NIFA website: “the training referred to herein shall be either on-campus or off-campus training” and “grantees should consider the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program for RCR”.  Please note that this means in-person RCR training is not strictly required for NIFA but counts towards the training that NIFA requires.

The 2020 RCR Training Workshops will take place on January 16 and January 17.  Part 1 will be offered both the morning and the afternoon of Day 1.  Part 2 will be offered both the morning and afternoon of Day 2.  There is no cost to register and participate.  Please note that both Part 1 and Part 2 must be completed in order to satisfy the RCR training workshop requirement.  You must register separately for each day.
