The next psychology colloquium is scheduled for Wednesday - October 30th at 3:30pm in BOUS A106. Dr. David A. Kenny from UConn will be presenting his talk titled "Metaperception and Meta-accuracy: A Research Odyssey". We hope that you will join us!
Abstract: Metaperception refers to what person A thinks that person B thinks of person A and meta-accuracy refers to validity of metaperceptions. In this talk, I review a lifetime of my research on this topic. Considered are metaperceptions of both personality and attraction. Among the key results to be reviewed is the strong tendency of people to think others generally see them the same way, how metaperceptions are both accurate and biased, and theoretical models of metaperception. In the talk, I consider key events in this research endeavor, which include a fortunate journal rejection, a National Inquirer article, and UConn fraternities and sororities.
