"Witchcraft in Connecticut: Past & Present Persecution of the 'Other'" is a free, multi-faceted program. It features a talk by Cynthia Wolfe Boynton, author of Connecticut Witch Trials: The First Panic in the New World, and President of the CT chapter of N.O.W.; dramatic poetry readings by four state poets of their books on witch persecution; a panel including State Historian, author and UCONN Prof. Walter Woodward and UCONN Prof. Em. Lawrence Goodheart that discusses CT history, and current persecution of women of color, LGBTQ+ community members, immigrants, believers in non-Christian religions, and others; and a participatory Wiccan Samhain ritual offered by playwright and priestess Suzanne Wingrove. The main sponsor for the event is UCONN-Hartford. Co-sponsors are the Departments of English and History, the Women’s Studies Program, and The Women’s Center.
