Student Activities

  • 11/1 Sisters In STEM Conference

The UConn Engineering Diversity and Outreach center will be hosting the first Sisters in STEM conference! It is a one-day conference, November 1st from 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM, specifically for Black, Latina, and Indigenous young women in 10th grade. The day will consist of STEM activities, graduate lab tours, and self-development workshops. Laboratory tours are led by UConn graduate students who will present their current research. STEM workshops, led by undergraduate volunteers, will consist of fun activities to introduce science, technology, engineering, and math topics. The self-development workshops, led by undergraduate volunteers and UConn Alumni, focus on various topics such as: confidence building, overcoming imposer syndrome, upliftment and advocating for oneself.

In order to make this happen, we need your help! We are looking for graduate students who identify as black, latina, or indigenous women to give tours of their STEM labs. There would be two, 45 minute tours, 9:30-10:15 AM & 10:25-11:10 AM. Please email engr-edpsw@uconn.edu if you can volunteer. Volunteers also receive a free T-shirt!

This the opportunity to introduce students to representative role-models, show them the allure of STEM, and have a positive impact in their journey as a young woman of color.

The flyers for the event is attached. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns!Thank You!
