Scholarly Colloquia and Events

  • 9/25 Psych Colloquium: Dr. Nicole Landi

The next psychology colloquium is scheduled for Wednesday - September 25th at 3:30pm in BOUS A106

Dr. Nicole Landi from the Department of Psychological Sciences will be presenting her tenure talk titled "Neurobiological Basis of Individual differences in Reading". We hope that you will join us!

Abstract: A sizeable amount of research establishes that reading disabilities and individual differences in reading are neurobiological in origin; however, substantial debate remains over the mechanisms that contribute to this variability in reading skill. Moreover, there is significant heterogeneity even among children with a specific reading disability (e.g., dyslexia).  Because reading requires the coordination of multiple cognitive and perceptual systems, the origins of reading disabilities may lie at the intersection of multiple causal chains. Advances in cognitive neuroscience and genetic methodologies have afforded a deeper exploration of reading disabilities and individual differences among typically developing readers. In my talk I will present some of my research on the cognitive and neurobiological foundations of individual differences in reading – findings from this work reveal multiple routes to disabled (and skilled) reading.

The remaining colloquium scheduled is listed below. All talks will take place in BOUS A106 at 3:30 pm on Wednesdays unless otherwise noted.
