  • Passing of UConn Student Nathan Sterling

    Dear Faculty and Staff,

    The following message was shared with students.

    Dear Huskies,

    It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of one of our students. Nathan Sterling a Junior majoring in Economics from Ellington, CT passed away on September 11, 2019.

    Nathan was a recent transfer from Manchester Community College.  While with us for a short time, his loss impacts many of us and he will be missed.  For those wishing to pay their respects, you are welcome to join the family from 4 – 8 PM with a funeral home service following at 8 PM on Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Rd. (Rte. 195) Tolland, CT. 

    If you find yourself in need of additional support, please do not hesitate to make use of these resources:  

    Student Health & Wellness - Mental Health Services is available to provide support to the Storrs campus community at this time of loss.  Mental Health Services is located on the 4th floor of Arjona and their office hours are from 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 10:30am-4:30pm on Wednesdays.  Students identified as needing support should be encouraged to either walk in during office hours or call 860-486-4705 to make an appointment. In addition, information about dealing with grief is located on the Mental Health Services website at http://counseling.uconn.edu/dealing-with-grief/

    The Dean of Students Office located on the 2nd floor of Wilbur Cross is available to assist students struggling with the loss of their classmate. You may make an appointment by calling 860-486-3426 or stop in to meet with a staff member during business hours Monday – Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm.  The Dean of Students Office will be holding walk-in hours Monday, September 16th from 1-4pm.

     

    This is a difficult time for UConn and for the Sterling family.  Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Sterling family and friends during this time of loss.
