Scholarly Colloquia and Events

  • 9/18 Psychology Colloquium: Dr. Chi-Ming Chen

The first psychology colloquium is scheduled for TODAY Wednesday - September 18th at 3:30 pm in BOUS A106.

Dr. Chi-Ming Chen from the Department of Psychological Sciences will be presenting his tenure talk titled "One Theory to Rule Them All: An over-arching theory of human brain energy consumption in goal-related behaviors". We hope that you will join us!

Abstract: The work-in-progress theory explains how an average human brain consumes energy efficiently to achieve a goal without processing all stimuli from the external environment.  It focuses on postnatal brains of 2 year-olds and up.  There are related fundamental theories; however, none of them could directly explain the complexity of neuronal oscillations.  The present theory has several assumptions and introduces two new hypothetical terms, internally-built module (IBM) and externally-fed module (EFM).  The talk presents some schematic patterns of neuronal oscillations to explain the two new modules; furthermore, one of the early-developed IBM and EFM pairs, the environmental orientation, is discussed.
