Join us for the first Teale lecture of the year, featuring Emily M. Broad Leib, Assistant Clinical Professor of Law and Deputy Director of the Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation.
Professor Broad Leib will present on the crisis of food waste in America. She will delve into some of the root causes of food waste, and detail how federal and state legal and policy solutions present an opportunity to help American people, stimulate our economy, and preserve our natural resources.
Broad Leib’s scholarship, teaching, and practice on finding solutions to some of today’s biggest food law issues, aiming to increase access to healthy foods, eliminate food waste, and support sustainable food production and local and regional food systems. She is the founder and Director of the Food Law and Policy Clinic at Harvard, the first law school clinic in the nation devoted to providing clients with legal and policy solutions to address the health, economic, and environmental challenges facing our food system.
Recognized as a national leader in Food Law and Policy, Broad Leib’s groundbreaking work on food waste has been featured in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, The Guardian, TIME, Politico, and the Washington Post. She has appeared on CBS This Morning, CNN, The Today Show, and MSNBC to discuss the clinic’s efforts to reduce food waste. The Edwin Way Teale Lecture Series brings leading scholars and scientists to the University of Connecticut to present public lectures on nature and the environment.
