Last Wednesday, we in First Year Programs and Learning Communities, honored the 2019 FYE Award winners at the Annual Teaching Excellence Awards Reception. Click here for a photo of the talented FYE Instructors of the Year, pictured with Sarah Scheidel and David Ouimette. Karen Skudlarek (middle-left) was this year's First Year Experience Teaching Excellence Award recipient. Karen has been teaching FYE for more than a decade, making her one of the most dedicated instructors, consistently going above and beyond in helping first year students succeed. Dr. Betsy Cracco (middle-right) was recipient of this year's First Year Experience Teaching Innovation Award. Betsy has also been teaching FYE for many years and is being recognized for her innovative activities and assignments designed to address the college student loneliness epidemic through challenging students to get to know themselves and one another better across differences, both in- and out- of the classroom.

Undergraduate students, Elena Jillson and Scarlet Du, were each named FYE Mentor of the YearClick here for a photo of Scarlett Du with her FYE Instructor, Sarah Renn. Elena and Scarlet each went outside of their comfort zone and excelled in their role as mentors to first-year students.
