Call for Nominations!
Dear CLAS faculty,
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is excited to announce the fifth annual Student Speaker Competition for the CLAS undergraduate commencement ceremony. Two graduating students will be selected to present remarks on behalf of their fellow graduates at one of the two CLAS commencement ceremonies that will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2019.
The Dean’s Office, which organizes the Commencement proceedings, encourages you to reach out to graduating CLAS students whom you think would be strong candidates for this opportunity. Students who are interested should submit a typed manuscript of their speech, which should be no longer than 5 spoken minutes (~750 words) to alldnof@uconn.edu. Submissions will be accepted until noon on Friday, March 22nd.
The student speaker committee, which will include faculty, staff, and students from CLAS, will review all submissions and select five to present their speeches to the committee as if they were giving it on commencement day. These auditions will take place during the first and second week of April 2019. Two students will be selected to speak at commencement along with an alternate. Selections will be made no later than April 15th.
