New Electronic Workflow for Graduate Program Approvals (GPAR)

The Graduate School has launched a new electronic workflow, the Graduate Program Approval Request (GPAR) system, for use in obtaining approvals related to graduate programs at all stages.  The system is designed to streamline the approval process for creating, eliminating, or modifying graduate programs (both degree and certificate programs) and replaces the old paper approval forms.  Much like the Senate’s Course Action Request (CAR) system, the GPAR system will automatically route proposals through the needed approval stages.  Information about the new system and how to use it is available at: https://grad.uconn.edu/faculty/gpar/

Note that GPAR should be used not only for the creation of new programs but also for program changes.  Changes that need approval include things like name changes (for fields of study or areas of concentration), changes in program requirements (and associated changes in the descriptions of requirements in the Graduate Catalog), and the creation of new fast-tracks (e.g., 4+1 programs) for existing programs. The deadline for changes to the Graduate Catalog is March 1.  Thus, all proposed changes must have received final approval through the GPAR system before that deadline to become effective and be included in the next catalog.
