11/5 Pharmaceutical Sciences Seminar - Dr. John MacMillan
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences invites you to attend a seminar on Monday, November 5, 2018,
3:30 - 4:30pm, Pharmacy/Biology Buidling (PBB) room 129
John MacMillan, Ph.D.
Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of California, Santa Cruz
Seminar Title "Function Driven Discovery of Natural Products"
Dr. MacMillan's research focuses on the chemical and biological characterization
of natural products from marine bacteria with therapeutic potential in oncology.
Over the last five years, the MacMillan laboratory has been working on
development of platforms to study the mechanisms by which natural products
engage with biological systems. His work in natural products spans the
development of NMR methods for structural elucidation, medicinal chemistry. He
currently leads the Center for High Content Functional Annotation of Natural
Products. He was part of a team that developed an inhibitor of hypoxia inducible
factor 2-alpha, an analog of which is currently in Phase II clinical trials for the
treatment of renal cell carcinoma.
