  • 10/10 Tertulia: Childhood, Crime, and Punishment

    Tertulia-Speaker Series featuring Solsiree Del Moral who will discuss "Sources and Methods in Puerto Rican History: Childhood, Crime, and Punishment." Solsiree Del Moral is a historian of modern Latin America and the Caribbean, with a focus on Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and U.S. Empire. Solsiree is a published author her book Negotiating Empire: The Cultural Politics of Schools in Puerto Rico, 1898-1952. “Street Children, Crime, and Punishment” is the first historical study of street children and incarcerated youth in post-World War II Puerto Rico. Children in jails and correctional schools suffered from overcrowding, lack of sanitation, poor hygiene, insufficient food, prolonged solitary confinement, physical abuse, and sexual violence.
