"Epigenetic Pharmacotherapy for Substance Use Disorder"
Brief description of talk: Drugs of abuse alter the expression of hundreds of genes in the brain which leads to maladaptive neuroadaptations and compulsive drug-seeking behaviors. Treatment strategies that have the ability to reverse or normalize the extensive transcriptional dysregulation caused by chronic drug use may have therapeutic utility. Here, we will show that epigenetic-based pharmacotherapies attenuate the transcriptional and behavioral responses to cocaine and other drugs of abuse in animal models of addiction. Collaboration opportunities using epigenetic-based approaches will also be discussed.
