Seminar Title: “A Model of Housing Equity Use of Older Americans”
Abstract:
Many older Americans continue to own a home in their later years and do not use their accumulated equity to help finance consumption spending in retirement. Reasons why people do not relocate and do not take out reverse mortgages are explored using an Overlapping Generations Model to conduct counterfactual experiments to understand the role that expected future health shocks and reverse mortgage policy play in the decisions older Americans make in regards to their housing choices.
