CRITICAL LOOKING (Gallery Dialogue)
Wednesday, September 19, 2018
12:15pm – 12:45pm
Join Amanda Douberley, Assistant Curator/Academic Liaison, for 30 minutes of close looking and discussion focused on the sculpture Restless (1994) by Melvin Edwards in the Benton’s permanent collection.
Edwards is a key figure in contemporary African-American art and postwar sculpture. Working primarily in welded steel, he creates evocative abstract sculptures from tools and other familiar objects that suggest a range of cultural, historical, and artistic references.
