  • 8/15 Starting Strong - the First Day of Class (Online)

    1:30 - 2:45 pm, online via Webex

The first day of class can be a source of anxiety for students and instructors. Should I just give out the syllabus and call it a day? How much information can students actually remember? Should I go into course content already? But how about the students that will be adding/dropping my class in the first two weeks? And what am I supposed to make of research that suggests that less than 30 seconds of observation of a new teacher can predict end-of-semester teaching evaluations? In this talk, we will discuss strategies and ideas for a successful first day of class that can set the tone you want for the whole course.
