  • General Counsel Appointed

    Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that I have appointed Nicole Fournier Gelston as the university’s General Counsel.

Nicole has served as UConn’s interim General Counsel since late 2017. This is, of course, a very demanding role at UConn, as it is at every major research university, and she has clearly risen to the challenge, successfully managing the enormous volume of complex and consequential issues that are the purview of her office. Her formidable legal skill, analytical ability, and highly efficient approach to her work make her exceptionally well-suited for this important leadership position.

Prior to her current role, Nicole served as Associate General Counsel at the University. She arrived at UConn in 2010 as a legal specialist working with attorneys from the office of the state Attorney General assigned to the university. In 2012, she was assigned to the General Counsel’s office, where she served as counsel for a year before being promoted to Associate General Counsel.

Prior to her arrival at UConn, Nicole spent 14 years with the New Haven law firm of Lynch, Traub, Keefe & Errante, P.C., first as an associate then as a partner. Nicole handled complex civil and criminal matters and represented municipalities, individuals, and businesses in state and federal court. Nicole also briefed and argued civil and criminal appeals before the Connecticut Appellate and Supreme Courts and the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Nicole is a past-recipient of the Connecticut Law Tribune’s Award for Overall Achievement, Connecticut’s Rising Stars designation by Super Lawyers Magazine and the Gerald N. Weller award presented by UConn’s Division of Student Affairs for her dedication to legal issues impacting Student Affairs.

Please join me in congratulating Nicole.

    Sincerely,

    Susan Herbst
