  • 4/9 Mindfulness at Work Course Orientation

Three (3) separate Orientation (Information) sessions about Mindfulness for Work-Related Stress are offered this week. Attending one Orientation session is required to register for the course, Mindfulness for Work-Related Stress. Choose one of these sessions from Noon to 1:00 pm, on Monday, April 9th; Thursday, April 12th; or Friday, April 13th at the Alumni Center Board Room. Please use the email below to reserve a space.

During Orientation, participants will have an opportunity to sign up for the six-session Mindfulness for Work Stress course held weekly. The course provides a first-hand introduction to 9 different mindfulness practices involving breathing, gentle body movements, and methods for incorporating brief mindfulness practices into everyday life and work. Thousands of people report that the course helped to reduce symptoms such as chronic pain, headache, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, over-eating, and negative thinking. Participants also report improvement in relationships, vitality, and a greater sense of well-being.

The research on Mindfulness shows that it greatly enhances "flourishing" - the opposite of depression, avoidance, and disengagement. Too often, our daily work routines require us to focus on many tasks, emails, and people at the same time. These distractions often lead us to react by 'checking out’ or going through the motions while our minds are often somewhere else. This free 1-hour Orientation will acquaint you with the practice of mindfulness based upon the instructor’s 16 years of training from the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. You will learn how this evidence-based practice has become an accepted part of mainstream Medicine and discover how it can positively affect the quality of your everyday life by building emotional intelligence, boosting happiness, increasing engagement, reducing anxiety, increasing the ability to focus, and helping people to make better choices under stressful work conditions.
