  • Summer Institute on Scientific Teaching

UConn faculty are invited to attend the Northeast Summer Institute on Scientific Teaching from July 22-26, 2018, at the University of Connecticut (UConn).

The Summer Institutes are designed to improve the quality of undergraduate science education, based on evidence-based teaching practices.  The first Summer Institute was offered in 2004, with sponsorship from the National Academy of Sciences.  Since then, the Summer Institute has expanded to a network of regional institutes; to date, 1,900 faculty and staff from over 300 colleges and universities have attended a Summer Institute. At the five-day Summer Institute, participants explore strategies that actively engage students and lead to more inclusive classroom environments.  In addition to participation in interactive workshops, participants work intensively in teams to develop lessons and activities that could be used in their own classrooms.

Faculty from any STEM disciplines are encouraged to participate. We recommend faculty apply as teams of two or three, although individual applicants will also be considered. Faculty may be active in either instruction or administration. Completed applications are due May 1, 2018.
