  • Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Affairs

    Dear Colleagues,

In consultation with Provost-designate Craig Kennedy, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Jeffrey Shoulson, interim Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Initiatives and Professor of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages, as Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Affairs. In this role, Dr. Shoulson will assume many of the duties currently fulfilled by Dr. Amy Donahue, who has served since 2011. His term will begin May 7, 2018.

Professor Shoulson earned his A. B. at Princeton University, his M. Phil. from the University of Cambridge, and his Ph.D. from Yale University. Before coming to the University of Connecticut, he was on the faculty of the University of Miami for seventeen years. A scholar of early modern literature and culture, his research has focused on intellectual, cultural, and literary encounters between Jews and Christians in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. His books include Milton and the Rabbis: Hellenism, Hebraism, and Christianity (Columbia UP, 2001); Hebraica Veritas? Christian Hebraists and the Study of Judaism in Early Modern Europe (U Penn P, 2004); and Fictions of Conversion: Jews, Christians, and Cultures of Change in Early Modern England (U Penn P, 2013).

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Shoulson on this appointment and thanking Dr. Donahue for her service.

    Sincerely,

    Jeremy Teitelbaum
    Professor and Interim Provost
